As the book of afro-dancehall music continues being enlarged, a new paragraph in the name of Zitrida has just been recently added.
Zitrida is another dancehall female hopeful who is geared to make a name by promoting positivity in local afro-dancehall music.
According to her, hers is a mission of positivity and change to the masses. She thinks her music is going to positively contribute to the feel-good spirit to the listeners.
“I’m not here to be a mere participant. I want to bring positivity to local afro-dancehall music since many people erroneously associate this genre with irresponsible messages,” she says.
Just like the multitude of other fellow budding musicians, Zitrida is no different as she ventured into this industry following her childhood passion.
“My life fell in love with music at a tender age. As I was growing up, I had been crafting some lyrical lines and sing here and there. Now, I think it’s time to go full throttle into this industry.” She reveals.
From that, Zitrida is optimistic that in no time, she is going to gain recognition from all and sundry regardless of their age. She says she is of the school of thought that let their artworks speak for theirselves.
“I’d let time to be the best judge. However, I’m optimistic that it won’t be long when Malawi will recognize who Zitrida is,” she challenges.
On a rather sad note, Zitrida riles at the tendency by many established stakeholders in the music industry who are fond of taking advantage of her being female. She says many are times when she has been enticed into exchanging sex for favours. But being a lady of principles, that has never succeeded.
“Being a female up and coming artist is no joke. People tend to take advantage of your sex under the premise that they’re gonna ‘push’ your music further,” she reveals.
- Birth Name: Matilda Kathira
- Origin and meaning of the stage name: Zitrida from the name Matrida because people pronounce it in different ways and some call me Matilda and some they say “Trida” so it makes me feel happy and then I just add “ Zi” to represent many.
- Date of Birth: 24 March, 1995
- Most memorable moment in your life.
My first time performing live on stage. It was epic!
- Most embarrassing moment
The time I had collaboration with a certain artist (he is a fellow up and coming artist just that he is (was) way better than myself). He snubbed my proposal for a music video of our song just because my verses weren’t that well-articulated.
