YONA MLAKATULI Goes Multi Lingual in new Covid_19 Poem

By Our Reporter

Yona Mlakatuli, that young poet famed for his popular Swagala ya chimidzi poem way back has now joined the bandwagon of local artists who are dishing out various media products aimed at sensitizing and combating Covid 19.

Unlike other artists locally, Yona has gone a mile ahead as he has released a multi-lingual poem, “Corona Takana” (we say No to Corona) today the 25th of July 2020.

“Corona Takana” has used Chichewa, Chiyawo, and Chitumbuka to disseminate the various messages regarding Covid 19.

Yona feels having such a multi-lingual poem can command more listenership hence saving many a Malawian.

“There’s a high saturation of Covid 19 messages from all angles. So, I’d to be creative to make sure more people get enticed to capture the message,” he revealed.

He adds that his main aim is to reach out to the village folk who are conversant with the three languages.

“I’d wanted my message to have no boundaries. I’d wanted it to reach all corners of Malawi,” says he.

“Corona Takana” comes a few weeks after Yona’s “Mwanakazi nikhuluku uyu” poem.

The upcoming poem, “Corona Takana” has been produced by Excel Music’ s Chawa Beatz.
