Organizers of the fashion designing event that aimed at promoting sustainable use of environmentally friendly chitetezo mbaula have expressed satisfaction with the output of the gala.
On October 8, Alpha Agency Initiative in association with United Purpose organised a fashion event that aimed at promoting environmental sustainability issues and checking deforestation.
The fashion show involved corporate companies to buy chitetezo Mbaula to be donated to vulnerable women in all regions of Malawi.
According to one of the organizers, Tina Kendricks, the event has paid dividends courtesy of the response from the audience and support from the corporate world.
“As you know, we were not looking after financial gains, but to find sponsors who could change people’s perception about the environment. It was not all about showcasing of outfits but to make a platform to advocate issues affecting our country and see how we can change it. So the response has been so splendid! We’re more than satisfied,’’ she said.
The event had 12 designers who showcased their talent. 10 of the designers were Malawian, and 2 from Zambia. The show spiced by performances from Patience Namadingo, Stich Frey and poetry from Sylvester Kalizang’oma and Malumbo Sichinga.
Among others, the fashion show was also supported by Cori; manufacturers of Kukoma cooking oil who brought 3300 environmentally friendly cooking stoves.
