Dream coming true!
One of the country’s fastest growing photographers, Cine City, birth name, John Roberts is all smiles as his works have hit an international recognition after making it into the final five contestants for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization –UNESCO Global Photography competition.
In a quest to promoting talents during the 2019 commemoration of the World Youth Skills Day-UNESCO launched a photography competition that saw 350 photographers globally submitting their work, with only 20 making it to the final round.
Among other qualifications, the submitted photograph had to depict green economies, youth skills and entrepreneurship.
The magic that is Cine City was depicted in his photograph of a couple in some grassland. Captured at night, and it reveals what goes on during photoshoots…you talk of using such basic peripheral gadgets as reflectors. Simply put, the photograph depicts the lengths of what the industry is in Malawi currently. No wonder it was on position fourth.
Reacting to the development, the endowed photographer, John Robert also known as Jay R attributed his success to good working relationship with his fellow photographers.
“It’s all about exploring. I’ve been working too hard with my fellow photographers together we have grown roots in the industry. That’s why im dedicating this award to all fellow photographers locally,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Lilongwe based photographer has unveiled plans after the momentous global recognition saying he will focus on shaping his art to continue putting Malawi on the map.
“This has amped my game; it’s a motivation and I will focus my art on how to continue raising the flag high so that the world should know that Malawi has talent.”
According to UNESCO, the 20 finalist will be exposed to the global market.
