As most artists in the country complain about low sales on their music, renowned multi-talented rapper, Toast – is singing a different song as his latest Extended Playlist (EP) Don’t Try It At Home (DTTAH) is making it big in terms of sales.
Previously, Toast had never sold his EPs, as according to him, he had never seriously considered commercializing his talent. In this one however, he felt time had now ripen to go commercial and reap from his talent.
Like other artists, Toast said his previous projects never performed better marketwise, a thing that forced him to devise a new marketing strategy, which, according to him, “has now worked perfectly”.
“The project has received an overwhelming support from the public. Most music lovers have showed much support during the pre-order of the EP and it is selling well. Many artists are now inspired by how my EP is doing on the market,” revealed he.
Overall, the EP has 7 songs including “What I Know” a collabo with Kwesta, and Tuno.
It has such songs as Shasha, and Dance in the rain, among others.
Currently pursuing studies in Kenya at University of East Africa, Toast has riled at the magnitude of pirated materials currently hitting the local entertainment industry, music in particular. According to him, it is so disheartening M-Dubz urban musicians failed to reap from their sweats courtesy of piracy.
“The music industry in Malawi is not that rewarding economically. Many artists do not benefit from it. My observation revealed that the industry has been infested with piracy and that most artists have little knowledge on digital marketing, hence, artists do act as charity workers without benefiting from their sweat,” he complained.
The award-winning rapper is however optimistic that his feat can be a turning point to local urban musicians.
“The support I’ve gotten from my fans could be a sign that slowly we’re heading in the right direction. It may not be today, but one day, we shall be there,” he hopes.
Minus DTTAH EP, Toast also boasts of other mouthwatering Eps like “Beyond Dreams” and YODA.
