Northern Zone Basketball (NOZOBALL), sponsors of the region’s basketball league are optimistic of a scintillating season courtesy of a rise in the number of participating teams.
The sentiments came last weekend during the launch of 2018 NOZOBALL league at Katoto Basketball court in Mzuzu.
According to NOZOBALL chair, Young Jere, the increase in the number of college basketball teams, will also stiffen the league’s competition hence making it appetizing to watch.
’I want to assure people who love watching basketball here in the north that this year Nozoball league will be unique and amazing. Every year, only two or three teams participate in the league but this year, the numbers have plummeted thanks to college basketball.” Said he.
Despite this exciting news, NOZOBALL is still keeping fingers crossed due to lack of sound sponsorship for the game in the region. The league’s chair relates such a dearth of sponsors to shambolic showdowns once northern region teams travel.
“Once our league can get sound sponsorship, then it could be voila!!! For our game here in the north,” he hopes.
And in his remarks, one of the representatives of the teams in the league, Hannock Ng’ona said it was high time the league’s management matured.
“Most of the times, the games here start very late but no punishment is given to the teams or sometimes the officials themselves come very late. Due to this behavior, players are the ones who suffer because they end up using running time instead of stopping time. It’s high time these changed,” He pleaded.
NOZOBALL has been sponsoring the northern region basketball league for both males and females for ages.
