The week ending was, as expected, full of drama, tears and exhilarations as some teams wrapped up the first half of the season in style.
The goal poachers were on point this week as they showed no mercy to the goal custodians, 23 shots were converted to goals.
Having an idea of the main issues surrounding the 15th week of the SIMSO premier league now let’s turn our attention to the action in our various grounds around the region.
- 11 shots went past the keeper.
- Rumphi United played their last first round encounter.
In Rumphi, Ekwendeni United were on the road to the Tumbuka land to face Leopards of Chikulamayembe at Bolero community centre ground. The match lived up to its billing as one of the tighest. 1 all it ended.
The outcome has helped the home side move into the top 4 with 30 points from 16 games.
In Chitimba, it was an all rookies’ affair as Kajipoze welcomed home Favored Stars at Chitimba CDSS ground. The hosts showed no mercy to the visitors by showering a five goal baptism to no response.
In Mzimba, Unpredictable Kabwafu United hosted out of form Manyamula United at Kabwafu ground. It was also another highly anticipated match more especially to the home fans considering the baptism of goals they were handed at the expense of Ekwendeni Hammers in the previous week.
A lone goal was enough for the hosts who saw off the visitors, to move Manyamula down to position 9 with 21 points from 15 games.
In Tumbuka land, Hewe United welcomed struggling Mzimba Young Bullets at Hewe ground.
Hewe had the right script for the encounter as they got the better of their opponents by beating them 2 nil. With the result, the hosts have moved one step up to position 11 with 17 points with 15 games played.
- 12 goals hit the back of the net on this day.
- Three teams wrapped up their first round assignments
In Ekwendeni, Wounded soldiers Mzimba Young Bullets were at it again in their quest for maximum points on the road against Ekwendeni United at the CCAP ground. Lately, the venue has been a death bed for most visiting teams.
It was a match of different emotions Young Bullets were coming from a loss and were looking forward to make amends and the hosts were coming from a draw and with the pressure of the 12th player they were supposed to collect all the required points. Again Young Bullets failed to put the Demons at bay as they went down by 2 goals to 1.
United now stand on position 5 with 25 points from 15 encounters while the Mzimba based side sit on the bottom of the table with 11 points from 16 assignments.
In Chitipa, Lufita United were looking forward to make amends for their last week flop at the hands of Baka City at home as they played host to jubilant Kajipoze. The visitors had fired warning shots the previous day. There was nothing to write about the encounter as the teams settled for a 1 all draw.
Lufita is currently on position 10 with 19 points from 15 matches and Kajipoze have wiped out their first round assignments while on position 13 with 15 points from 16 games.
In Chilumba, Majaliro ground was the epicenter of action between hosts Chilumba Barracks and Favored Stars, as the latter was winding up their first round assignments in their maiden campaign. To the action now the Scorpions of Vinthukutu failed to utilize their chances of playing at home as they were held by the Stars in a blank draw.
In Mzuzu, it was derby day as out of form Luwinga United hosted high flying Zolozolo United at the Luwinga Technical Center ground. As usual, bragging rights were at stake but at the end of the day spoils were shared in a 1 all draw.
Luwinga United is on position 15 with 12 points which have been accumulated in their past 14 games.
Zolozolo United on the other hand, occupies the glittering 3rd position with 32 points from 15 matches.
In Karonga, The clever boys who, recently, have been on fire as they continue to mount pressure on league leaders, Ekwendeni Hammers faced Kabwafu United at Karonga stadium in a mouthwatering encounter.
Sad for Kabwafu, it was never meant to be as they were whipped by 5 goals to nil. That’s how a title contender announces his arrival.
