A sigh of relief! As the COVID-19 pandemic continues showing its ugly face in all sectors globally, teams from the Simso Northern Region football Association (NRFA) can breathe a sigh of relief as they will benefit relief items from Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and Rab Processors.

Amid Covid-19 blues, FAM launched Covid-19 Relief Program which aimed at assisting some soccer clubs in the wake of this pandemic. So on Monday, the soccer governing body, together with Rab Processors broke the good news.

According to the media briefing in Blantyre by FAM boss, Walter Nyamilandu, and his counterpart, Ahmed Sunka, the package is valued at K130 million. It is going to consist of assorted food items to be delivered to all registered players, and officials of the targeted leagues from June up to December 2020.

Reacting to the development, Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) General Secretary, Masiya Nyasulu said this donation is timely and will be very instrumental during this pandemic and called on teams that did not register to do the needful and stand a chance to benefit.

“We are happy for the initiative more especially that it has trickled down to the regional teams. We’ll make sure all the donation serves its intended purposes,” he promised.

On his part, Alick Zungu, the Team Manager for last season’s third placed team in Simso premier league, Baka City, hailed FAM for the timely response to the teams in the lower leagues.

“We are very thankful to the association for the consideration because we as Baka city fc have also been affected by this pandemic. So it’s more like a relief to us and it’s a huge motivation to the players and also the team at large. We feel honored,” praised Zungu.

Zungu further added that per the requirement of FAM for only 25 players and 5 officials to benefit from the relief program they will put in measures to ensure all goes as per donors’ specifications.

“As a team, we will sit down and see how to handle this because we can select the best 25 amongst the 30 and also select amongst the officials whether only the technical or maybe the executive to be included. Soon we will sit down as Baka city fc,” he said.

The programme is targeting 62 teams with a maximum number of 25 players and 5 officials and each team will be getting 30 Bespoke branded packs, valued at K10,000 each.

In total FAM will distribute 1,860 packs a month which translates to 13,020 packs for the duration of seven months.
