Malawi’s prolific professional attacker, Chawanangwa Kaonga has started his second season at Mozambique’s Macambola league side Costa Dol Sol on high note scoring four goals in four league appearances, breaking his own last season record were he scored once in his first three games.
Kaonga, former Civo Service and Silver Strikers talisman who has just received his first flames call after a year, to join straggling flames in the provisional squad for COSAFA , was influential on Wednesday, scoring a brace in Costa Dol Sol’s 3 nil triumph against rookies Baia de Pemba ,sending his team on the top of log table with 10 points, .
It is all gold this year as Kaonga already has two gold medals following Costa Dol Sol’s tremendous performance, winning the community shield and Mozambique’s Torneio De Futbol “TOP 8” Mavilla boy cup.
In an interview, Kaonga expressed satisfaction and hopes for more goals as his team eyes for championship.
“This year am geared up to work to the limit of my abilities and I believe with hard work and focus on my game.” Said Kaonga.
Kaonga has also expressed commitment of eyeing the golden boot , targeting 15 goals this season.
“I will score more goals this season as i want to win the golden boot with more than 15 goals this season and am sure with God and the help from my teammates I will achieve this feat.” Said Kaonga.
But reacting to his first call up, after a year of neglect Kaonga was short of words saying he is readily available and excited for the call.
“It is always an honor to play for your country and the call up shows that the technical panel has appreciated my work which I am doing this season and I am looking forward to give my all so that I can make my country proud again.” Said kaonga.
Kaonga came to limelight in 2013 at Silver Strikers being among the leading scorers of the season that helped the team to win its firth TNM super league title.
He signed for Clube De Chibuto in 2014, his maiden team in professional football career , then in 2018 Kaonga signed for Costal Do Sol scoring 8 goals in his debut season.
Kaonga was an influential figure in famous Enerst Ntawari’s under 20 flames Squad of 2014 with notable moment of scoring a brace in a 2 nil win against Botswana that helped the junior flames qualify for the second round of 2015 CAF Youth Championship qualifiers.
