Forgotten spiritual music artist, Mphatso gracious Chiumia, is back in the limelight with his first song in 2019, Malawi.
To be released on Monday, 8th April 2019, “Malawi” is an echo to former president Bingu wa Mutharika’s school of thought that the country was only lacking human capital for it to excel, developmentally but is a haven for other non-human resources.
According to Chiumia, Mother Malawi is losing her identity courtesy of dearth of creativity as well as cultural erosion.
“Let’s be satisfied with what we have; if anything, let’s start generating our own incomes. Over-reliance on foreign aid comes with other non-Malawian cultures, some of which, can erode ours,” he preaches.
On the entertainment side, Chiumia said he is hopeful his song is going to add some substance in the day-to-day affairs of Malawians as it has some mind-changing concepts.
“I’m hoping there’s going to be a new line of thinking once Malawians get a dose of what’s in this new song, (Audio and video),” he hopes.
Meanwhile, Chiumia has called upon Malawians to embrace the culture of appreciating the local music industry, as is the case with sports, football in particular.
“Malawi lets support music as we do in other sectors e.g. sports. I wish companies could come in this music industry and invest in music as they do in sports, bringing in lots of tournaments hence making soccer players active all the time,” He thoughts
Malawi song has been produced by Blantyre-based Gracious, with MEST doing the video.
