THE ROAD TO LUANAR FASHION WEEK
By: Patience Ngulube Lunda.
24-year-old Thandiwe Magasa, is our first fashion designer to be featured as days draw closer to the first ever LUANR Fashion Week scheduled over this coming weekend.
Magasa, trading under Ethandiwe Clothing line feels the event is the right forum for her clothing line to get recognition.
“I want many people to know my work and this event will be a great medium for people to know what Ethandiwe brand is all about,” she revealed.
According to Thandiwe, Ethandiwe brand is for every fashion loving person. The creativity, and customer satisfaction that the brand offers, makes it ideal and separates it from the rest.
“We want to influence change through fashion hence we involve our customers in our creative process; in short, we value quality and customer satisfaction. This is why Ethandiwe is so remarkable,” she expanded.
Besides that, Thandi believes the local fashion industry is a sleeping giant that can transform the country’s economic front if well supported. She, therefore, is geared to use the gala to enlighten the audience on the same.
“Stakeholders can promote the fashion industry in Malawi by importing best quality sewing materials at affordable prices as well as introducing fashion designing in primary and secondary schools as a subject. In the end, we can completely transform our economic front,” she explained.
She has always been inspired by a Mrs Chibonga from Area 9 in Lilongwe, and H & M fashion (internationally).
Meeting Thandi today, she always shares that fashion designing had always been her childhood bread and butter.
“My passion for fashion has always been there ever since I was a child. I could redesign my other clothes or my new clothes by hand but when I wanted to venture into entrepreneurship I was like why not fashion designing?” she recalled.
Thandie holds a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, and also an advanced Diploma in Telecommunication.
