Malawi’s seasoned poet and Musician, Mashallo Samilo is releasing his debut book, Wokoma Nyasa – a collection of poems which glorifies the beauty of Malawi, this month end. EM can confirm.
Wokoma Nyasa*, literally, “Beautiful Malawi” is a litany of Mashallo’s previously released internationally acclaimed poems that have been praised in over 4 countries.
According to the writer, the compilation is a glorification of the beauty of the Warm Heart of Heart of Africa.
“It is all about Malawian tradition and culture for the next generation hence imparting our traditional morals to the youth who are losing our way of levity.
My work is destined for great heights to promote the importance of literature and literacy for all,” said Samilo.
Wokoma Nyasa is a response to the outcry by Malawi Writers Union for more of active young writers in the country to revive the industry.
The book has 93 poems which took the author, 5 years to come out with the marinated anthology.
According to Samilo, with Malawian stories and culture, the seven-chapter book is also a celebration of poetic legacy and reoccurring creativity in Malawi that will reach many.
“The book will reach in every snicket, across the rivers, down in any entertainment domes, the underground tombs to teach, remind and preach the Malawian diverse culture and enrich the reader’s knowledge,” said Samilo.
The decorated poetry book has such poems as “Welcome to Malawi”, “Black Rind”, “Words from the sun”, “Bwadzulu”, “This is sound”, and many others.
As we went to press, the venue for the book release was yet to be announced.
*Nyasa is a Yao word to mean Lake. It is however popular and synonymous with the pre-colonial name for Malawi (Nyasaland – Land of Lakes)
