As the battle for survival in the TNM Super league gets thicker, two of relegation threatened sides, Karonga United, and MAFCO FC are refusing to throw in the towel claiming they still have the muscle to soldier on.
With just a handful of matches remaining, Karonga United sits on 13th position with 31 points whilst its counterpart, MAFCO FC lies three steps down with 25 points, a step away from already relegated Nchalo United.
Over the weekend goneby, the Salima-based fading soldiers, MAFCO FC went back with a single point from their Mzuzu assignment after drawing with Mzuni FC on Sunday, a day after they went down by a Gastin Simkonda’s goal at the hands of their friendly forces, Moyale Barracks FC.
In a post-match interview on Sunday, MAFCO FC’s head coach, Tione Tembo said the journey to the second tier Chipiku League was not on their menu.
“It’s not over until it’s over! We ‘re going back to the drawing board and I say now we will work tirelessly to avoid the relegation. We have all the three remaining games to wrap up the season at home and at Chitowe we don’t lose; so just wait and see as we collect 9 points at home, ” challenged he.
Up north, fellow TNM Super league strugglers, Karonga United, just like MAFCO, is also adamant the rookieswill survive the heat in the league.
According to Karonga United’s Team manager, Kondwani Mwalweni, his side is well adept at surviving tough rides and surviving the chop was one of them.
Mwalweni’s sentiments came after his side saw off another MDF sponsoring struggler, Red Lions by two goals to nil at a match played at the former’s backyard on Saturday.
Said he, “Our sole aim is to survive the chop by collecting as many points. If we can maintain the momentum, we cansurvive the league. we’re well suited to accumulating vital points when need be.”
As it stands, Karonga United is remaining with 2 matches to wrap up the season whilst MAFCO FC is three matches away from knowing its TNM Super league fate.
