Fun-loving Malawians have all the reasons to smile as award winning Malawi’s biggest international Arts festival, the Lake of Stars, is set to return this year along the shores of Salima, it has been announced.
The three day spectacular gala is to rock from September 28 – September 30 2018 at a new locality in Leopards Bay, deep at Malawi’s -owned, Kabumba Hotel resort, situated at the foot of Senga Hills in Salima.
According to Lake of Stars Director, Will Jameson, the new site is on point as it is easily accessible to all since it is not very far from the capital, Lilongwe .
“We are excited to celebrate our special 15th Anniversary at Kabumba Hotel, a stunning new site with over a kilometre of beach front, a tranquil wooded hillside and excellent facilities. It’s also only around 125 KM from Lilongwe; making it accessible from people all around the country and international visitors to come and celebrate with us”. said Jameson.
He further expressed his appreciation and optimism that this year’s event will outclass many as they aim at bringing in something spectacular.
“I’m delighted to be returning to the central region and working with a new venue partner in 2018. Lake of Stars is known for breaking new ground in Malawi so it’s fitting that for our 15th anniversary celebrations year we are offering something new and exciting for our loyal audience,” said Jemison.
As a way of engaging with the community within which the event operates, an Outreach Programme will be established again this year.
Currently the event organizers, according to Jameson, are working closely with the owner of Kabumba Hotel, Mganda Chiume, and local community leaders.
Meanwhile it is not yet known to what the outreach program will be. Previously, event organizers had hosted a Day of Ideas to inspire and motivate local school-going learners, organizing community sports matches, staging free concerts for the local villages, recycling wood from the festival into school desks and benches among others.
Among the artists that are expected to grace the 15th anniversary of lake of Stars, are the hot female artist Kim of Diamonds, who will be making her debut at Lake of Stars following her successful set at the recent Set It Off event in Zomba.
She will be joined by Madalitso Band, George Kalukusha , alongside the Scotland’s Frightened Rabbit, who will boost things up with their five-piece Indie Rock sounds, and poetry from charismatic Scottish wordsmith, Michael Pedersen.
Minus an application process being open for artists wishing to apply for the festival, EM also can reveal that many more artists’ announcements will be made over the coming months with a leg on each side of genres of literature, music, poetry, theatre, dance and more.
Previous festival headliners include Mafikizolo, Freshly Ground, Young Fathers, Uhuru, Toya Delazy, Foals, Beverley Knight and Oliver Mtukudzi alongside Malawi’s leading artists.
