For every successful soccer club, there’s always a jersey number ten. For whatever reason, this jersey number carries with it a certain caché, a sense of prestige; some sign of respect. Perhaps it could be because some of the planet’s finest in the game used to (and others still) don that. The great Brazilian Pele, Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, and our own Ernest Mtawali. Simply put, there is an aura of respect associated with this number.

Jersey number ten is the fulcrum of almost every soccer club. The wearer is supposed to be the saviour, a player par excellence.

Nyasa Big Bullets’ pint-sized midfielder, Mike Mkwate is no exception. What he lacks in physique, he has it in skill. His dazzling touches, and his supersonic pace when with the ball has always caused ecstasy to supporters from the stands, and those watching him at home.

Watching him playing reminds one of the mature Tikki taka Barcelona soccer displays. He is always an appealing sight to all and sundry.

Veteran local soccer analyst, Charles Nyirenda baptized Mkwate with the name, Digital, in recognition to his astounding football displays which, to Nyirenda can only be matched by video game soccer characters.

So, it is such accolades that EM’s Hazviperi Mbizi takes us closer to Mike Digital Mkwate, the young and gifted Bullets’ engine room.
