Northern Region volleyball giants, Mzokoto who finished third in the just ended elite northern region League finals, have called upon well-wishers to bail them out with some assorted sports gear.
Unlike other teams who had multiple jerseys, enterprising Mzokoto vigorously broke its own record in Jappie Mhango Northern Region Volleyball League by reaching the semifinals without a team jersey; each player donned his own attire.
According to Mzokoto’s captain Emanuel Mzumara, the journey to reach the regional tournament finals faced numerous hurdles as times, it could train without a ball.
“Although we faced some challenges along the way, we turned them into our motivation. However, it hasn’t been that rosy,” cried he.
Mzumara then challenged the Northern Region Volleyball league administrators to prove that the league is for all northern region teams by rotating the venue for the grand finale.
“If indeed this league is for the north, let the finals venue rotation commence in the coming season, otherwise teams from the remote areas will remain at disadvantage,” challenged Mzumara.
Reacting to the call, vice president for Volleyball Association of Malawi, James Kaunda, said the association will meet over the matter.
Kaunda also applauded Mzokoto for the fighting spirit it showed in its previous league run.
“We have to sit down and talk about how we can come in. It’s a good team, we have a lot of teams struggling yet they have the skill. With help, Mzokoto can become a gem in the country’s Volleyball fraternity.
Mzokoto has no sponsor and aims at competing in national tournaments but with the financial hiccups, the dream swims in circles.
