Hope! Local up and coming musicians who are struggling to promote their music have a chance of clinching a lucrative music video deal courtesy of ever-green gospel rap star, Gwamba, and popular video director, Ubwino.
According to Gwamba‘s post on his official Facebook page (Gwamba) dated 3rd June 2020, the artist will be sponsoring one up and coming artist every month till December with a music video which will be directed by Ubwino.
The Multi-award winning rapper is of the view that a good Music Video would be helping young talents to rise and carry Malawi’s flag to other countries.
“We’re living in times where an audio alone might not be enough, People prefer music videos. A lot of young talents can’t afford to shoot nice videos no wonder there are a lot of good songs that don’t go far,” said Gwamba.
Reacting on the announcement, Mzuzu based up and coming hip-hop artist who is slowly building his name up the radar, Slim D praised Gwamba for the initiative.
“It’s a very good idea, Gwamba wants to help our music industry. This will definitely bring change in the game and at the end of the day some of up and coming artists will make a name from this,” said he.
Slim D, who recently released a song with Seven-O-‘more “Osamazimva” further narrated his struggle of having a Music video worthy international eyes .
“I’m financially weak hence can’t manage having a music video. In the end, I’m failing to raise my bar in the industry,” cried Slim.
To qualify, the artist is supposed to send a song that he or she wishes to produce a video to a WhatsApp number +26598640811. A team of experts will analyze the song and pick the best from the candidates.
This is the first time Gwamba has come up with such competition and a milestone for the young talents.
