Communities around Mpamba Health Centre in Nkhata-Bay have commended Extra Mile Development Foundation (EMDEF) for donating personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers at the facility recently.
EMDEF, a non-profit health organization that focuses on uplifting the status quo of marginalized communities in various spheres of life, made the donation amid the Covid_19 pandemic in the country.
Extra mile Development Foundation Executive Director, Towera Ngwira, said being her organization got interested in sourcing funds to support the health workers as the facility lacked materials to combat the pandemic.
“We intend to promote good health among our healthy workers as without sanitation, there is high risk of spreading the virus. We want to help our healthy workers with this equipment so that they should not be vulnerable to this pandemic.” She revealed.
Items donated were face masks, gloves, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, hand wash soap and water buckets and basins to the tune of K300 000.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the centre, Mpamba Health Center in-charge, Zox Kamanga said the donation was timely as it will go an extra mile in the protection of front-line health workers from the novel Covid-19.
“Our patients and guardians have been complaining that we lacked some hygienic materials like what our friends have donated today. This donation will, therefore, ease the problem,” he praised.
