On many occurrences, musicians have been associated with political parties and politics to advance their propaganda, set a good image of the parties, party leaders and influential party members and one of them are Dan Lufani. Lufani has been one of the victims of political propaganda by producing songs that praise politicians and political parties.
As if Lozani Zanu was not enough, Lufani is now back again with another political song titled team A where he continues to sugar-coat the current ruling DPP. This time, Dan Lu is praising not only DPP but together with United Democratic Fund (UDF) following their alliance they have created. The alliance between DPP and UDF emerged following the re-election process that Malawians are preparing in days to come.
Lufani uses the song Team A as a propagandistic song to means that following the alliance that the leader of UDF party, Atupele Muluzi and DPP party, Peter Mutharika made is the number one party from the opposition parties that they will face.
The song will act as a source of motivation to the audience that tends to follow DPP and UDF parties, and to those who belong to the opposition parties, the song is an insult or an indication that Dan Lufani is a big supporter of the two parties. To political analysts, they would interpret the song as an indirect attack of opposition parties following the pending tripartite re-elections.
The use of the words,
“Author, Atupele Team A, ndikuti palibe angamake, Author, Atupele ndife Team A, otsutsa ndi ma empty tin awa, chomwe adziwa ndi ma demo awa tiwanyenyanyenya tiwateketeza, tiwafinya asadzayambilenso, chomwe adziwa nkuphwanya mashopcholinga awononge dzina la DPP”
Mainly to mean that there is nobody who is going to stand against the alliance between DPP and UDF for this year Tripartite elections. The artists also reasoned that the opposition parties are empty tins that only have an intention of tarnishing DPP’s image in the form of demonstration.
Dan Lu further uses biblical words
“Chala cha Mulungu chikaloza, palibe otembelela, aona nyekhwe”
To symbolically mean that Mutharika is God’s chosen leader for Malawi and that those who are trying to go against him will face problems of which he named them with a Lomwe term “Nyekhwe”
In the song, the artist indirectly continued to attack the opposition parties as parties with leaders that are corrupt, drunkards and that will not use Government’ money well.
The song that Lufani has produced will have a high impact on his musical career for many people will tend to be interested in what he has communicated in the song. This will also make some musicians produce political songs that will either continue to praise DPP and UDF or the opposition parties.
