THE YOUNG GENERATION
By Lonjezo Idrissa
Have you ever sat down and wondered how you can build up your life when nothing seem to work for you? Have you ever thought of why other people have already given up on their lives and continue living haywire? Or have you ever thought why some things in your life are not working as planned?
Well, tell you what? It is normal for some things to head south, when we literally want them to head northwards. It’s normal for a person to face hitches along the way. However, a fully-fledged modern day youth needs to realise that he or she should be in control of matters and not the other way round.
There are some inputs that can guide us to re-build our lives once we have faced some hiccups.
The greatest step in building one’s life is via self-evaluation. This mean knowing your strengths and weaknesses. We need to know our capabilities as well as our limits.
As for weaknesses, this involves what you are not capable of doing in your life. For instance, if one is not good at drawing, one need not force matters; rather you can focus on perfecting what you are good at, if anything you can outsource those who are good at that other weaker aspect of you.
The strengths are those things that you are able to do or can achieve. These things are supported with knowing your skills, talents and knowledge in life. It might be skills that you have acquired in class after spending some years at college or it might be skills that you are born with.
Even if the skills seems to be lame in your mind, they are still worth it for the smallest things in life are the ones that helps to build bigger things in life. Even a baobab trees do not just grow up big as you see them, the start with a young shoot.
So in life, if you know how to write, speak, dance, play football, netball, tennis, draw, do acrobatics, edit stories, sing and others. Do not just keep them in you, you need to expose them to the world. Show your skills and talents to the world. Every person that is a celebrity in today’s world, let it be Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Akon, Chinua Achebe, Barack Obama, Cristiano Ronaldo and others, all started by realising their talents and skills in life. Most of them did not go to class to learn. They just realised their talents and stuck to them.
For one to do self-evaluation, age, social class, gender, sex, cultural background and other differences do not matter. Everything begins in you. One does not need other people to tell him or her of what is capable of doing in life. The biggest mistake or problem that most of us do when building our own life is that most of us tend to look at what other people are doing and start copying the way they are living and forgetting that that is not our life. We do not realise that we are only just wasting our precious time.
So self-evaluation is the best teacher in life. When we know who we are and what we are capable of doing in life, it helps us to be who we want to be in life. I am even very sure that nobody wants to live a miserable life, not at all. Everyone dreams in colour and thinks of greatness. So assess your capabilities for the better you of today and tomorrow.
