It’s now official. Mighty be Forward wanderers is to face Capital city sleeping giants, Silver Strikers in the Finals of the Airtel Top 8 bonanza which is slated for this weekend.
Silver Strikers confirmed their candidacy after seeing off Kamuzu Barracks FC 5-3 via post match penalties having tied off at 1 apiece after normal regulation.
The bankers were the first to knock on the net of the TNM Super league champions via a Mathews Sibale goal in the 37th minute.
After recess, Silver Strikers showed attacking intent in the opening minutes of the second half through their one-two scintillating touches that kept the capital city soldiers huffing and puffing. However, the display failed to unlock KB’s back line.
However, on 75 minutes the Central Bankers made a terrible mistake in their own 18 yard box when Chisomo Mpachika handled a ball and referee Ishmael Chizinga pointed to the penalty spot for the soldiers, to which Dan Ziba converted to make it 1 apiece.
In the last minutes Silver strikers were in control of the match with their engine-room, Thuso Paipi who was visible in all fronts. However his displays paid no dividends as the match ended 1- all.
As per rules of this bonanza, post-match penalties were to decide the fate of the two city rivals. And deciding they did.
Silver strikers converted all their spot kicks via Chisomo Mpachika, Young Chimodzi Jnr, Blessings Tembo, Thuso Paipi and Green Halawa
Kamuzu Barracks FC scored their three penalties via Vincent Mphepo, Pilirani Makupe and Sammy Chiponda whilst the first penalty, which Mustafa Salim missed, meant their fate was already sealed; there was no need to take their fnal spot kick. KB bid the Airtel Top 8 glory goodbye.
This means the central bankers will tussle with Mighty Be Forward Wanderers as the latter saw off resilient Moyale Barracks Fc (on Saturday) after trailing by two goals to nil.
So, cometh 3rd June, all eyes will be on the Bingu National Stadium as the two will hussle it out to grab this inaugural tourney.
