By Duncan Kaonga Jnr
From a distance, it seems lady luck has smiled on young mothers in the country with the birth of a non-governmental organization, “Empowering Young Mothers Foundation”.
Unique and bizarre, 20-year-old, Tusaiwe Munkhondya is the brain behind the Mzuzu-based organization.
This comes at a time when different organizations and country’s icons have man up in promoting young mothers by offering skills in the realm of education and social-economical teaching sessions.
According to Tusaiwe, the organization’s ultimate motive is to empower young mothers to achieve greater heights in their respective communities in the country.
Tusaiwe, a young mum herself, says the idea behind the organization is to breathe life into young mothers who cannot stand the heat in their lives and homes.
The rare gem attributed the experience which she goes through as a mother has also contributed to the materialization of the organization.
“Empowering Young Mothers Foundation will mainly focus on improving the state of young mothers in the country through the means which can make them productive and self-dependent in the community and also make them have an impact in the affairs of the country.” Said she.
Tusaiwe has so far fired shots to young mothers not to demean themselves but to keep their heads high and hope for the best in their lives.
“Being a young mother is not the end of the road but a beginning of new life with chances to make you a better person who can have an impact in the society and country as a whole,” she expounds.
Tusaiwe, a holder of certificate in hospitality and culinary arts, believes that in the next two years, she will have the muscles to reach out to every young mother in all parts of the country.
“I have a colourful hope for the future. I’m confident come two years from now, we’ll be able to make noise in all corners of Malawi, reaching out to all our targets,” she hopes.
Expected to hit the ground September this year, the organization is opening its doors to potential interested partners to achieve one common goal of empowering the young mothers in the country.
